Throughout my time studying abroad in Argentina, I took a class about the Hispanic World and Latin America, (SPAN 3080), with an emphasis in Argentinian history. During this class, we learned about the different political regimes that ruled Argentina and how current events in Argentina came to be. We were tasked to write about an aspect of Argentinian history that was not covered in the class. I have always been fascinated about learning about the influence of Muslims in nations around the world, as many countries in Latin America have been shaped by the Islamic rule that took place in Spain. Due to recent historical events in the Middle East and in the world, I have noticed how individuals have a negative connotation of Muslims, so I wanted to use this assignment as a platform to debunk the myths that many individuals I came across in Argentina had about Muslims & Arabs and share the impact that Muslims and Arabs have had on current day Argentina. It was fascinating to share my findings with my professor, host mom, and classmates.
